Hot Springs Gravel Gauntlet — Here’s What Locals and Motorists Should Know

The Hot Springs Gravel Gauntlet is here. Part of the Southeast Gravel Series, the Gravel Gauntlet is a competitive gravel cycling event that brings riders from across the Southeast to race on scenic back roads and mountain terrain. This year, over 400 competitors and their families and friends are arriving in Hot Springs for a full weekend of racing, and our roads and community will be at the center of it all.

On Friday, May 15th, riders will be out on River Road for a Shakedown Ride, pre-riding the River Road section of the course before Saturday’s race. If you’re traveling that road on Friday, please slow down and watch for cyclists.

On Saturday, May 16th, race day begins with wave starts departing from the Hot Springs Resort & Spa at 9:00 AM, 9:30 AM, and 10:00 AM. Riders will compete across three course difficulties, and because starts are staggered, expect waves of bicycle traffic on both US Highway 25/70 and River Road throughout the day, with River Road seeing the heaviest activity. It will be a busy and exciting day in town!

Motorists traveling either road this weekend should slow down and stay alert, watch for cyclists at intersections and when turning, allow extra travel time through downtown, and give groups of riders plenty of space when passing.

The finish line is at the Hot Springs Resort & Spa, and the whole community is invited to come out Saturday and cheer on the competitors. It’s a great way to welcome the visitors who chose Hot Springs for this event and to enjoy a little excitement right here at home.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and have a great weekend.
